Woot woot, blogging two days in a row!!
Where's my medal? Or trophy? Okay fine, no awards necessary because the real reward is when you get yourself to lunch at Astor House in Phoenix.
It's a cute little place, somewhat off the beaten path. On 12th street and Oak just north of McDowell in the heart of the Historic Coronado neighborhood it could be confused for a home in this residential area. Once you walk in it has the charm of being in someones home but elegance of a nice eatery.
But down to business. The most important part is that this place has super legit food.
This photo doesn't do my Cubano Sandwich {pork confit, ham, swiss, mustard, pickle, mayo on a perfect baguette} on the right justice of it's goodness. On the left is the Mexican Gyro {green chile pork, tomatillo, corn salsa, lime, crema} and in the middle is Portuguese Donuts. I had the refreshing homemade sparkling lemonade and Lauren had the "Best Iced Coffee in the World" direct quote from the gent taking our order.
Back to my Cubano. It was divine. It's been two weeks and I can't get it off my brain. It was juicy, it was fresh but best of all it has me craving it all over again. The pork confit is what made this sandwich for me.
We visited with the owner, Jessica, she and her fiance' JP own it along with Tuck Shop, neighborhood comfort food only open for dinner just next door and Vovomeena a breakfast joint just recently opened at 7th Ave. and McDowell.
For you coffee lovers out there they make this iced coffee that takes 8-12 hours to brew. I wish I could share more about it but since it's been two weeks my mom brain has lost a majority of the information about it...but here is the photo nonetheless!
In addition they have a progressive happy hour where drinks start out at $3 at 3pm and $4 at 4pm and so on...doesn't sound like a bad deal to me.
Honestly, I cannot wait to get back to Astor House. That pork is calling my name.

Oh my, that Mexican Gyro sound DIVINE. And that pic of iced coffee looks great, too. Wish I lived closer, I'd make you go with me! ;)
